The 7 Best Graphic Designers & Creatives from Greece

Greece is the perfect convergence of antiquity and the modern. The Mediterranean paradise has so much to offer—delicious food, an abundance of islands to visit, ancient art and architecture, endless sunshine and whitewashed houses overlooking the Aegean sea. We’re not surprised that creatives flock here for inspiration!

To celebrate the creative scene in Greece, we’ve selected seven design studios that we love. From packaging to branding and illustration, there’s something for everyone in this round-up. Read on to see a beer packaging design by Polka Dot Design inspired by psychedelic music, cheerful interior graphics for the gastronomy shop Ergon created by Beetroot, an album cover design by Toma Studio for the acoustic rock band Jack Heart and more.

1. Beetroot

The Thessaloniki-based Beetroot Design Group provides creative services to clients around the world. They aim to discover the essence of a brand and develop the identity around it. For the gastronomy company Ergon, they designed a line of food packaging, promotional graphics and the interior of the store using colourful illustrations featuring a grandmother as the main focus point surrounded by animals called “YIAYIA and friends.” The end result is fun and humorous.

2. Polka Dot Design

Polkadot Design was started by Nearchos Ntaskas and Clair Georgelli, creating illustration based design projects. With their collective background in animation, art, illustration and typography, their combined skills complement one another beautifully. They use bold colours and shapes to create branding that is playful and unique. For Strange Brew, you can see references to the illustrative psychedelic style of the 1970s complemented with beautiful typography and quirky names for each beer type.

3. Luminous

Luminous is a storytelling studio from Athens that specialises in branding, identity, print, packaging and digital design. With each project, they aim to create work that is innovative and bold, sharing the brands vision through meaningful design. For the nutritional pasta brand Macareux, they created packaging with a clean, minimal look with a limited colour palette and a design using abstract shape cutouts representing different types of pasta.

4. Holy

Holy is a branding agency that merges design with technology providing services across identity, packaging and digital. For the Athens chocolate brand, Kakau Worship, they created packaging with an organic look that referenced banknotes and the mythical history of cocoa from ancient times, resulting in a timeless design.

5.Toma Studio

The small multidisciplinary studio Toma is all about innovative design. They create custom solutions for their clients—from logo design to identity, packaging and illustration. For the new project of Jack Heart, they created illustrations that evoked the dark folk vibes mood of the music based on the lyrics. “An abandoned, dark but familiar place, comes to life through the neon lights, like a ghost of someone we used to know.”

6. Smirap Designs

The Athens based designer Mike Karolos started his studio Smirap to specialise in design and illustration. The studio creates a wide range of work from logos to packaging and illustration, utilising abstract art and graffiti in some work. For the school products company Typotrust, he used his illustrations for a series of notebooks using his style that would appeal to not only the target demographic, but would be something that anyone would pick up.

7. Odd Bleat

The Odd Bleat animation studio was founded by Yannis Zoumakis and Manos Gerogiannis who write, design, direct and animate for both TV and web. For Summer Nostos, a festival featuring a lineup of artists and dance performances, the studio created a television spot using beautiful colourful animation work reflective of their style with a vibrant summery vibe.
