#FridayFive with Shillington Design Teacher Adam Busby

Inspiration can come from anywhere. So, on the first Friday of each month, we’re sharing some of our Shillington team’s favourite things from the past four weeks. This month, Shillington Brisbane Teacher Adam Busby tells us what was on his radar in March.

1. To Follow: Rogier van der Zwaag

This man does things, and it messes with your mind, in the best possible way. Using the simplest of objects he creates magical, mind bending compositions using some refreshingly analogue techniques.

2. To Read: Brain Pickings

A brilliant blog/newsletter encapsulating the writings and curation of Maria Popova. From ancient philosophy books to current biographies, Maria goes deep into books you’ve never heard of and could never find and extracts absolute gold every time!

3. To Go: Stay Home

Well at the time of writing this, no one can go anywhere as everything is in lockdown, so I think the best place to be pointed to go is somewhere online. Luckily currently creatives are doing what they do best and there are tons of musicians, artists and others putting on live shows, doing talks and more. One to watch and an old favourite of mine is Mike Perry, he’s opened his studio for some live chats and a view into his daily works which currently involves a custom put put course he’s designed!

4. To Listen: You Made It Weird

It has to be a podcast as I am a huge fan of the medium and happen to host a show of my own. I’m not quite narcissistic enough to share my own, so I am going to share a show that I’m loving at the moment: You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes. This is the perfect remedy for a slump, the man is a master interviewer, digging deep into philosophical places while somehow being simultaneously hilarious.

5. Wildcard: 5 Bullet Friday

Tim Ferriss is someone who knows his way around a conversation and is a brilliant mind in the business world. The title of his books “4-Hour Work Week” make him a wildcard, but make no mistake, the man is a baller and he goes way deeper than his book titles reflect. Good starting place would be his 5 Bullet Friday (great title!) email newsletter, it’s short and sweet and full of helpful things.
