#ILoveTheseGuys Creative Inspiration: John Malta

Shillington students from around the world share the work of creatives who inspire them in the #ILoveTheseGuys series. In this post, New York student Thomas Derwent highlights projects from award-winning Illustrator and Art Director, John F. Malta.

Inspiring individual with an insanely massive catalog! Awesome colours and just such cool illustrations. I have been a huge fan of John F. Malta’s work since I met him in Columbus,Ohio around 2007. I was super amazed and I am super inspired by how much this guy works on his illustrations. I mean he is working on his stuff 24/7. He never stops. He has a massive portfolio of work. He designed some special edition screen-printed LP covers for my record label back in 2008. Since then he has done so many things (NY Times, PBR Bottles, Honda advertisements, etc.) and is constantly pushing himself and exploring new ways to go deeper and get better. The PBR bottles and packaging are super cool. PBR is the beer of choice in Columbus, Ohio and I can think of nobody cooler to represent than Mr. Malta himself! His work has an identity and that is something I like about it. You look at it and know it is a John Malta or can quickly put two and two together by looking at the colour palette and elements he uses. Definitely a certain style that you can count on in all his work. Very chaotic designs with lots of contrasting colours. Such a cool guy! Check him out!
