David Bailey at Shillington Manchester

To launch our global network of Shillington Graduates ‘#Shillumni‘ we’ve been thrilled to welcome some of the biggest and best in the industry to speak at our Shillington campuses. 

One of these #Shillumni talks featured the wonderful David Bailey at our Manchester campus. A highly acclaimed designer known for his involvement in The Designers Republic before going on to set up his own practice, Kiosk, then moving onto the BBC where he now works as Creative Director of UX&D.

We welcomed back 30 graduates through the doors of the Manchester campus who studied between 2012-2017. An ideal opportunity to get back in touch with old faces and make new contacts. We asked the attendees what they thought of the evening and what they took away from David’s talk—here’s what they said; 

“It’s a whole new community of like minded people who have all been on the Shillington journey. It’s really good to have that connection.”

1. “It’s a great resource, even for just getting encouragement to keep going!”
2. “I’m a recent graduate but it’s reassuring to feel that Shillington is investing in its students beyond the duration of the course.”
3. “It’s a great way for me to meet back up with my friends and teachers from the course and to make new connections through the other graduates and speakers.”
4. “The ability to keep up with the design world. My job is in-house and I’m the only designer, so I really enjoy talking to other people in the same line of work. It’s always inspirational!”
5. “It was an incredibly honest and engaging talk. David stuck around afterwards which allowed us to meet him and ask any additional questions.”
6. “You don’t need a load of visuals when the talk is interesting, it puts the focus on the speaker and what they’re saying, which I found very engaging.”
7. “David’s talk reminded me to be brave, passionate and take risks.”
