#FridayFive with Shillington’s Clay Allison

Inspiration can come from anywhere. So, on one Friday a month, we’re sharing some of our Shillington team’s favourite things from the past four weeks. This month, Student Experience Manager Clay Allison tells us what was on his radar in February.

1. To Follow: Vishal Narapon

Vishal Narapon is a Vancouver-based photographer. One glance at his beautifully curated feed, you’ll be whisked away into a land of satisfying angles, imagery and colours.

2. To Read: Another Country—James Baldwin

Following Rufus Scott—a Harlem jazz musician. It draws you into the underbelly of 1960s’ New York, bad and brilliant in equal measure.

3. To Go: Diane Arbus—Hayward Gallery

“My favourite thing is to go where I’ve never been.”

Diane Arbus‘s stark portraits of the weird & wonderful in NYC throughout the 19th century really set the bar. My personal favourite, and if you ever need a bit of inspiration to leave the house and do something a bit different—look no further then her approach to photography.

4. To Listen: Yawn—Bill Ryder-Jones

Journeyman, Bill Ryder-Jones, has produced and collaborated with a whole host of acts—as well as being lead guitarist in The Coral for 5 years. His new album, Yawn, takes inspiration from Nick Cave & Nick Drake—it’s as moody and beautiful as you might expect.

5. Wildcard—Test Pressing Festival

Day festivals are where it’s at nowadays—Hackney Wick’s Test Pressing festival features some amazing acts such as Moon Duo and Warmduscher. The sun should hopefully be shining brighter in April, and it’s a day of pure indulgence.

Have a look back at what’s been inspiring our team over the past few months! And for some drool-worthy visuals from our Shillington students, read 20 packaging designs and 16 handmade album covers.
