Talking with Tattly

Today we are so excited to interview Tattly, creators of designy, game changing, temporary tattoos. Have a read to hear about the company’s beginnings, their first metallic collaboration and what’s on the horizon.

Most design enthusiasts have heard of Tattly, but for any newbies, could you tell us about Tattly’s beginnings back in 2011?

Tired of putting poorly designed temporary tattoos on her daughter’s arm, Tina Roth Eisenberg took matters into her own hands. After soliciting a dozen world renowned artists and designers, hiring the first two team members, and learning what a temporary tattoo was actually made of, Tattly began moving at full force.

In July of 2011, Tattly launched online, featuring an all-star lineup of professional designers and illustrators. Starting with just a handful of designs, Tattly has grown to include over 400 designs and work with numerous artists from all around the world.

Tattly boasts an amazing group of designers! How can other designers and artists get involved?

Though we do look at every submission sent our way, our focus is on building out new designs from our current artist roster. The best advice we can give is to keep making great work and be passionate about what you’re doing. Most likely we’ll see it and will come to you.

Can you tell us a bit about the “Tattly Hacks” you feature on the blog?

Once a week we post a “hack” made up of at least three designs to make a fun concept that makes people smile.

This past year you launched the first metallic Tattly with Rifle Paper Co. How did that project come about?

We all know that Rifle Paper Co. has an amazing collection of illustrations used on their stationery and various products. The Gold Floral came from a card that was actual gold foil printed and we were inspired to translate the same look onto skin.

Tattly is targeted to both children and adults. Since your launch, have you had any surprising customers?

It’s a lot of fun to spot Tattlys in the wild and see them on all kinds of people and all kinds of places. I think we are mostly surprised by customers and companies who order Custom Tattly for their events and promotions. We love that our brand can help other brands grow.

Wow—Tattlys are sold in more than 1000 stores in over 40 countries. What differences have you noticed in your international customers?

Interestingly enough, we’ve actually found our international customers are much the same as our domestic customers!

What’s next for Tattly? Just keep on keepin’ on, or should we be watching for something new on the horizon?

Always be watching the horizon and our various social media channels. Whether or not it’s as simple as a new design, we always have something up our sleeves.

Big thanks to the team at Tattly for the chat. If you love tattoos but can’t commit to permanent ink, definitely head over to Tattly and choose your favourite!
